Railways won’t be privatised, says minister | India News – Times of India

Must read

New Delhi: Railway minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday ruled out privatisation of Indian Railways, saying the public transporter belonged to every Indian and would remain so.
“Indian Railways will never be privatised. It is a property of every Indian and will remain with the government of India,” Goyal said while responding to the discussion on demands for grants for railways in Lok Sabha. However, Goyal also made a strong pitch for encouraging private investment in the economy, saying that it would result in efficiency. He added that this year, 5,500 km tracks would be privatised.
The minister’s reply came on a day when privatisation of PSUs took up a good chunk of discussion in the House.
