Hundreds of farmers have been protesting since late November on the Delhi borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, demanding a rollback of the Farmers’ Produce Commerce and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers’ (Empowerment and Safety) Settlement on Price Assurance and Farm Providers Act, 2020; and Important Commodities (Modification) Act, 2020.
The protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that these legal guidelines will pave the best way for the dismantling of the minimal help value (MSP) system, leaving them on the “mercy” of huge firms.
