NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday requested Andhra Pradesh to file its response on the allegation levelled by its neighbouring state Odisha that it had encroached upon the latter’s territory in violation of the apex courtroom’s order.
A bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar requested the Odisha authorities to offer a duplicate of its contempt petition to the standing counsel of Andhra Pradesh and posted the case for February 19.
In its petition, the Odisha authorities contended that Andhra Pradesh was appearing in violation of the SC order by conducting an election in its territory by roping three villages underneath Koraput district of Odisha into Salur mandal of Vizianagaram district (AP).
It stated the three villages had been underneath the executive management of Odisha and urged the SC to provoke contempt proceedings towards the authorities of Andhra Pradesh, together with Vizianagaram district Justice of the Peace Muda Hari Jawaharlal.
“The stated notification issued by contemnor 1 (the district Justice of the Peace of Vizianagaram district), in unison with contemnors 2 (chief secretary of the state) and three (State Election Fee) is to invade into the territory of petitioner state at the price of wilful violation of this courtroom’s order,” the Odisha authorities’s petition stated.
“Within the notification, the contemnors intentionally roped in three villages from ‘Kotia group of villages’ falling underneath the territory of Koraput district of Odisha into Salur mandal of Vizianagaram district. Clandestinely, the contemnors modified the title of the three villages of Kotia gram panchayat,” it added.
