ASSAM: The chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday welcomed the extension of the Border Security Force‘s (BSF) operational jurisdiction in coordination with the state police and stated that the transfer will function a “deterrent” for illegal infiltration.
“Assam welcomes the extension of BSF’s operational jurisdiction. In coordination with state police, this transfer will function a robust deterrent for defeating cross border smuggling & unlawful infiltration. It strengths nationwide safety and nationwide curiosity,” stated the chief minister.
Notably, in a transfer geared toward sustaining “zero tolerance” in opposition to terrorism and cross border crimes, the Centre on Wednesday empowered the Border Safety Drive to conduct searches, arrest suspects and make seizures as much as an space of fifty km inside Indian territory from International Border (IB) alongside India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders.
