AMBALA: Indian Coast Guard deputy commandant Abhishek Kumar was awarded the distinguished Tatrakshak Medal by defence minister Rajnath Singh throughout an investiture ceremony in Delhi on October 9.
Abhishek was awarded for his gallantry throughout an operation to bust a drug-smuggling racket in 2019, when he alongside along with his workforce seized about 1.1 tonnes of ketamine.
“I joined the Indian Coast Guard on December 22, 2011. I used to be awarded for an incident dated September 19, 2019, after I was posted within the Indian Coast Guard ship Rajveer. Our workforce had seized a haul of ketamine, which was on its method in a sea vessel from Myanmar to Indonesia. There have been seven individuals within the suspected vessel who had been caught in the midst of the ocean. I used to be the boarding officer and our workforce handed over the seized medication and the accused individuals to the state police,” Abhishek advised TOI.
Beaming with satisfaction, Abhishek’s dad and mom mentioned: “He dreamed of serving the nation from childhood.”
“I’m the third era in my household who’s serving the nation within the forces and this award has introduced me laurels,” mentioned Abhishek. His father Krishan Lal retired as Honorary Captain and his grandfather Ram Singh was a Naik, each within the Indian Army.
