CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Wednesday objected to the ministry of dwelling affairs resolution to increase the Border Security Force’s (BSF) powers of arrest, search and seizure to a 50-km belt in Punjab.
Channi tweeted, “I strongly condemn the GoI’s unilateral resolution to present additional powers to BSF inside 50 KM belt working alongside the worldwide borders, which is a direct assault on the federalism. I urge the Union Dwelling Minister Amit Shah to right away rollback this irrational resolution.”

Manish Tewari, Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib, additionally tweeted, “MHA Notification enhancing operational mandate of BSF, 15 to 50 KM’s in Punjab,West Bengal &Assam transgresses upon Constitutional Public order & Policing remit of States Half of Punjab will now fall underneath BSF jurisdiction @CHARANJITCHANNI should oppose it.”
